Ganties appears on all maps of the region, even small scale, as it is noted as a place of historic interest ~
Like a number of Towns and Villages in the 'Comminges' area, it was a place that pilgrims came to take the waters ~ a 'spa'. The old 'bath' buildings can be seen on the outskirts of the village. They are in need of some restoration but there is some work being done this year. The village itself is rather spread out; a mix of old, very old, and a very few newer buildings. The Church is of particular interest.

The style of the larger houses is rather different, being a mix of substantial farmhouse, 'Maison de Maitre' and Toulousaine style, of which Cap de la Carrere is a classic example. The outside decoration below the roof line is of a particular type that can be seen locally.

There is one bar in the village (Where you could happily film a movie set in Great War) and no shops, so Aspet is your best choice for local shopping, although an extra 10 minutes in the other direction would see you with a choice of Supermarkets on the outskirts of St. Gaudens. Saint Girons is just under 30 mins in the other direction and as it is in the Ariage, very different. The remains of the '60's Hippy culture still hang out there and it is not unusual to see a flower power 65 year old on a push bike with a basket in front. (Usually with a kind of shrub inside!!) Go on a Saturday morning for the local market.

Where is Ganties? A very good question!

It is in the Haute-Garonne:

It is in the Piemont Pyrenees:

It is in the ancient area 'Comminges':

In the part: 'Haut Comminges':

It is in the commune of Aspet:

Part of the 'Trois Vallees' area:

And on maps, in the Pyrenees Centrales.
